Imogiri Royal Cemetery

Built in 1645, the tomb of Sultan Agung Hanyokrokusumo, the third king of the Mataram Kingdom, rests atop the peak of the cemetery at Imogiri. Sultan Agung gained renown for his bravery in resisting the Dutch colonialists in 1628. Imogiri serves as the final resting place for all the kings of the Mataram Kingdom and their families.

To reach the tombs, visitors must ascend 345 stairs to the summit of the hill. Traditional Javanese attire is mandatory for all visitors to the cemetery. Imogiri Royal Cemetery is situated on a picturesque hill approximately 12 kilometers from Yogyakarta, offering a serene and culturally significant experience for those who make the journey.
